What do you mean? The predecessor C&O was knee deep in mining from the transportation perspective. WV, KY, VA for starters. They hauled the coal to market but I am not aware of any railroad ownership of mines.
I believe they haul coal also, to power plants here in the east. I see a lot of coal cars loaded headed east from Palmer, Mass at the Diamond.
I just realized its phosfate . From whence comes phosferous.
