CTA to eliminate daytime spot cleaning of cars

Its a great idea. The only proviso is that it seems to indicate another loss of quality in the elimination of consistently clean coaches through the day. The elimination of of A\B trains was another. Are they still on that reduced schedule that provides for only hourly or half hourly trains? Whats next? Perhaps the elimination of the Evanston Express to a change of trains at Howard, similar to the Skokie swift? I always thought the Swift would have drawn more riders as an express. I think of the enforced change of trains at Deplaines between the CTA and CA&E which dropped ridership with the loss of a one seat ride. Well, it is a great idea none the less to hire ex offenders. I wish others would emulate that program.

When did you escape from the 18th Century to provide us with your backward expertise on giving some a second chance to make a start at an alternative to crime? Balls and chains? Road gangs…?Yes that really solved the issue once and for all…only in your mind. You seem to have a slight anger issue that results in extreme opinions or you are a not so subtle troll with a chip on your shoulder. BTW…Yes, its all vast conspiracy pointed at you…(yawn)

I have a terrible admission to make. I find myself looking for News Wire stories that might yank Jeffery’s chain. He is so outrageous as to be sort of entertaining. It is also important to know how the fringe thinks and, unfortunately, there are a lot of Jefferys out there. You’ll never shut him up or convince of him of anything he does not already believe so don’t waste your time.

C W COPPLE hit the nail on the head. Jeffery kind of reminds me of Rush Limbaugh, the crap he spews is so outrageous it’s entertaining.

Compared to our competition in places like Germany and China, Japan, France, and Turkey, we suffer from a transport system that is often slow, infrequent, and unreliable. Must our system be dirty, too? Has civic pride been a casualty of the dumbing down of America?

Ex-offenders? What is that? How about past offenders that happened to get caught? And why are they being paid? No wonder the CTA is broke. If it had any intelligence, punishment, and a concept of economics, those past offenders would be cleaning the cars full time for free. Why bother fooling around with union cleaning labor when past offenders are volunteering themselves? In fact, the CTA doesn’t even have to pay for law enforcement to make sure these offenders do the job right the first time. Instead pay Wisconsin deer hunters in the off season to come down and do that job. Let’s see, gun season is one week out of fifty two. That reduces paid law enforcement to keep an eye on the offenders down to only one week out of the year. Plus the hunters come with their own guns and ammo and don’t miss the first time. Especially at extremely close range. Toss in the fact they are non-union, the CTA can probably pay them half of what it pays its own people to handle enforcement.

See how easy it was to solve that economics and enforcement problem.

I think hiring the ex offenders was a great idea, and does wonders for their outlook on life and might spare them from further offences. I hope reconsideration is in the works.

Instead of removing the trash add a little dirt and turn the cars into compost piles on wheels. Now that could be a revenue source.!!!

I Agree its a great idea give people a chance. Everyone makes mistakes in life. (well but from reading comments here and on past articles Jeffery Guse has never or will never make a mistake in his life.) They should keep the ex-convicts and get rid of the union workers seems to me that they will save money

“Ex-offenders” or “past offenders”??? What about “current offenders”, like “The Goose”, who keeps offending everyone on this blog, with idiotic rant and irrelevent comments!!!

What an interesting situation - Jeffrey Guse generates more interest and passion from the readers than the stories themselves.

I do wonder whether he believes all of what he posts or is it simply a way to generate comments?

If he didn’t exist Mr Fuse would be a great invention for Trains to generate interest in this web site.

JG is opposed to any taxpayer funded item in the universe EXCEPT the taxpayer provided and mostly funded highway/rest area for him and his semi! That of course is perfectly OK!

Trash removal every 16 days? Oh my! How low we have sunk as a civilization.

Wow! I can spit on the floor and my DNA will be there for fifteen days!

Did some forget to pick up Jeffery Guse off the floor of one of the cars? That is one BIG heap of trash.

I hate to say I have the same initials as another Jeffrey.
But the CTA, which I ride everyday…they actually did spot-cleaning? Really? When? Where?

Mel & Mo, I think that would be a tall order. I think that would be hard to do, because it would be hard to scrape the Goose off the floor. I don’t think that there is a scraper big enough to do the job do to the fact that there would be dried up soda, coffee and gum!

As a former hogger on the MOP at Neff yard in KC, I can honestly say, I think these same fellows cleaned our beloved SW1200s. The floors were covered with trash, sunflower seeds, peanut shells, etc. I won’t even go into your visibility out the grease-covered cab windows. Sometimes, a leaf blower would have done the best job, and bring your own Windex!! Got better when they painted them Armour yellow!!! Right C.W.C.?
