CTT Magazine May 1998 AC Gilbert Survior Layout

I noted that the artilcle is written and is based on the two rail American Flyer trains. I only have the page with the track plan on it. The illustration shows the layout in three rail with a scale bar associated with the layout. Is the layout illustration actually done for three rail? The layout will perfectly fit the area I have to build a layout but I am not sure if the scale of the illustration is actually for three rail. Does anyone out there know??? Thanks.

I am unfamiliar with the article you mentioned but it wasn’t until 1946 that American Flyer had the two rail track. Prior to that they used three rails (0 gauge).

It’s an optical illusion - put your glasses on and you will see it is clearly 2-rail. The rails are in white, the roadbed is in green(divided by the two white rails - it looks 3-rail at quick glance).
