Any suggestions for HO scale cucumbers (harvested)? I’m thinking maybe oblong seeds I can paint green - nothing in the wife’s spice cabinet.
Need to fill wheelbarrows. Just finishing The Pickle Works (a great laser-cut wood kit; easy but takes a long time). Any suggestions are appreciated.
I would go to a birdseed place. Nyjer seed is about the right size.
But get a bird feeder. That stuff does not come in small bags, and you might as well feed birds with the rest of it. Finches and chickadees.
I picked up one of the old Athearn pickle cars at a show, and I’ve got a flat car and Ambroid kit in my to-do pile.
Caraway seeds painted green?
If I recall correctly, caraway seeds is what Irc Schultz used on his layout, he had lots of pickle cars and facilities. It’s definitely mentiooned in the April 1990 MR, page 89, where is packing plan was Model of the Month.

I saw some made out of grass seed once. I think the guy just dribbled a green wash over the seed.
Carraway seeds are what I have seen used in open top pickle cars.

Roll out green plasticine really thinly, cut, place. It should harden eventually, sooner if really thin.
If you are prone to mice in the layout room think twice about seeds.
Another food product that might work are the candy sprinkles or “jimmies” that people put on cakes and cupcakes. Some even come in green. Of course the same critters that enjoy seeds might feast on the jimmies as well.
Tiny bits of green florist wire are another possibility and I am not aware of any animal that eats them! Green putty (squadron) rolled small and cut into lengths, or green PlayDough might work.

We mix a llittle Boraxo with plaster, sculptamold, etc. This seems to keep the <1,000 explatives deleted> away.

Would adding Boraxo to the glue to secure the seeds keep mice away?

Possibly grains of rice?
Fine for O scale, but too big for HO scale.
