Greetings all
I thought I would post my current progress on my model railroad.
I am still working on track and wiring. I added a bunch of feeders and tied into the bus wire. I did find two poor connections and fixed them so now a good signal goes around the whole layout. Asked the CFO if I could make a run to the LHS for supplies today. I need to rip up a section of mainline and relay it I do not like the way trains travel through it.

Although I have not mastered the art of posting pics,
I have a city that is going to look awesome when it
is in place.I am thinking about doing the scenes in
stages then put in a mini-construction site while a new
building is being built.
Superb pics and one heck of a neat layout. One question: Are there enough leg supports under the frame work? When you tackle detailed sceneking (hills, shrubs, trees etc.), will the additional weight of the materials have enough support? Very impressive! Best of luck as you continue this fine work.

Yes there are 11 legs total
and it is fastened to the wall studs along the wall.
I have actually been up on top of the layout almost everywhere.
I was thinking of making it sectional so I could take it with me when and if we move and another 10 years but decided it wasn’t worth it. Some scenery will be carboard strips with plaster towels and other will be stacked foam.
there arent many if any trees in Green River which is why I chose it plus the cool castle rock formations its really desolate
especially in winter it looks nearly inhabitable.
Great Sean, hope you continue to keep us up-to-date. Have you mentioned the over-all deminsions in previous forum topics?

That is an ideal size pike. I wouldn’t want it any larger for a single operator. Still, it is large enough that your son will be able to join in the fun. Keep up the fine work and both of you ENJOY!
Got back from the LHS with my new items including a Thomas the tank engine for my son, we have run that sucker non stop he is just nuts for it.
Let me ask this question what is with LHS owners
everyone I have ever known here is always a big grump
this guy just sat there counting his weekly numbers and didnt even bat an eye at my wife when she was ready to pay.
He never acknowledges anyone in a positive manner.
Had another shop like that here and the owner didnt like the “old farts” coming in and hanging out all day on the weekend swapping stories. He eventually hsut down due to that. Seems odd to me why anyone who doesnt seem to like trains runs a train shop.
My LHS owner is the same. I only go there for track and pins etc, He will be really pi…ed when he finds out I’ve got 5 BLI loco’s coming from Tony’s, and 24 hoppers from Discount trains. I must ask him next time to give me a quote on BLI to see how much he charges.

This is uncanny and can’t be only a coincidence. In Tulsa Ok. there were only 3 LHS worth the bother and one owner acted like the inventory was his own private collection, the second considered customers invisible but the third was a jolly guy. Later I read of his arrest for bootlegging whisky (circa 1950’s). Oklahoma was a dry state then. Here in Florida, H & R Trains have courteous help but they may as well be cashiers at a super market. The other shops in the Tampa Bay area are either indifferent or act as though you have interrupted them from heading to the “John.” The one exception is Frank’s Trains in Oldsmar, Fl. Great inventory (all gauges) and the best repair man you’ll ever meet. Hey, one out of a few dozen ain’t bad.
actually…Im dismantling my layout this weekend. I have no plans to start a new one in the near future. maybe this fall. I have had this one now for 3 years ( Its a 4X8 ) so im getting kinda bored.

I have only two HS in my area. One is Hobby Town USA were they cover all types of hobbies and quiet expensive. The other is this old grumpy guy that sells over priced used trains (mainly Lionel). I run HO so I have to look on the internet for my trains.
I was building a 4x8 foot layout but decided that I did not like the layout. I found wasted space and am now creating a 4x9 foot layout with a 3x2 foot branchline on one side and a 2x3 foot branch line on the other. These will be for my logging industry.

Good for you dwfin1985. Hey, you might want to look into “protoype operations” before you go to far with your layout planning. As you may know “prototype operations” allows you to make car tickets, way bills, even timetable operations if you care to. You have an ideal set-up with the extensions on both sides of the main board. One thing for sure, by going to “proto ops,” you will never be “bored” as Jeremy has mentioned about his road. Just a thought for the “long haul.”
