Current Railroad Events - Rail New sCoverage

Shouldn’t there be an upfront Railroad News area at Trains.com? This forum seems to cover some current events, but it’s buried and, while much in it may be true, I wouldn’t count it as “hard news,” in the traditional sense. I frequently hear of some railroad-related story on the main media outlets (often bad news, I’ll admit) such as this evening’s story about the trailer of strawberries demolished in Oxnard, CA, – and I’ll wonder what the railroad community’s perspective on this stuff is. Trains. com always disappoints: scarcely any mention of major stories, no railroad insight. No railfans ever seem to be near the news, or, if they are, they don’t seem to be talking about it. Is this a misperception on my part? Am I looking in all the wrong places for railroad news traces? – Didrik

Didrik,

Did you try the Newswire link at the top of the page?

I find the Trains Newswire adequate. Sometimes I’d like more detail, but then the Newswire at least suggests other websites that may have more detail.

The story about an Amtrak train hitting a truck full of strawberries in Oxnard, CA was aired on our local Fox TV outlet last night (February 16). The grade crossing accident was videotaped, and that tape was run on the Fox 5
10 PM News.
