Who would have the largest fleet of these now? Any stats available on current rosters?
National Railway Equipment
Heres a website that stays pretty close to the railroads current rosters
Thank you…looks as if the lease fleets do own alot of these. I’m also surprised that over 300 SD40-2 locomotives are still in service at CP…last one was built in 1988… that many still around and most are pushing 30 years old too…that says it all.
Union Pacific has the largest fleet, they have announced a plan to rebuild 500 SD40-2 locomotives to meet Tier0+ standards for continued service. About thirty have been rebuilt so far. CSX has also started to rebuild their SD40-2s.
That’s good news…hopefully CP will do the same. CP without SD40-2s…just wouldn’t be CP…
I see them now and then on the UP line that goes east of St.Paul across the St.Croix through Hudson Wi and onward.
A large portion of the Rebuilt units have made their way to Roseville. SO I see shiny new looking SD40-2s regularly. There’s also an extensive dead line of units waiting.
