Curtis Tillotson, Jr. RIP

I just saw on the Trains newwire that Curtis Tillotson, Jr. has passed away.

The man was a frequent contributor to Trains, both in articles and photography during the 70’s and 80’s. He was a very, very solid black and white photographer of the Southern Railway and other roads in the Southeast. His shots were always well composed and well lit. I could always tell one of his photos without looking at the credit…often either very low angle or overhead view.

Has anyone read any of his books?

Yes, I could usually tell his overhead telephoto shots from anyone else’s. A railroad in the southeast was also a giveaway. He will definitely be missed.

Not on the Newswire yet, but we also lost another pillar of the railfan and preservation world: Robert W. Richardson, of Colorado Railroad Museum fame, passed away last week Thursday. I don’t know how old he was, but he had to have been well into his 90s (he was elderly but spry when I met him over 30 years ago).
