Curved Bridge

Hi,

Would like some suggestions on either buying or constructing a curved double track HO bridge. Bridge length would be up to 18" with at least a 22" radius. Recommended site links would be most helpful.

Thanx,

Stan

There is either a MR or Carsten’s book about bridges. It will be helpful.

There are dozens of styles of bridges. They can all do what you suggest, but they reflect different eras and investments. The MR books on bridges give a good starting place. Only after you decide on style can you really look for kits. The Walthers Cataloge is a good place to start but I found this forum was helpful when I got to kit bashing a huge arch bridge, which I converted from double to single track for my purposes.

Actual curved bridges are rare, mostly limited to masonary or concrete structures. Steel curved bridges are lengths of straight bridges assembled in a rough curve. The Walthers Catalog is the best place to look for ideas.

Just get some Atlas flatcar girder loads, they sell them in packs of 3 for about $4.00 dollars. Just take a Atlas snap saw and cut the angled ends off and hot glue them to the sides of your plywood risers.

Campbell makes a nice one but it is only a single one. Making it a double one would be simple. I can scan the drawings and email then to ya if thats what you want.

I had to fabricate one for use on our HO scale club layout. I cut a piece of Masonite into the desired curvature and length. Sides were made from thin balsa glued to the edges of the Masonite. Square match sticks were cut with tapered ends to represent the vertical ribbing, and were glued onto the balsa sides. Everything was then painted flat black.
