I am starting to think about my layout design. I want a minimum of 22" curves, but Atlas True-Track (what I will use) doesn’t make a 26" radius, and I might want an inside loop in the layout. So can I just use the 24" radius on the outside loop and add a short 1.5 section of straight track in the middle of the outside loop curves to give room for the 22" radius inside loop, so they won’t rub?
Yes, in theory, inserting a short straight section will give you separation between tracks so that you can use the same radius on both. The nice thing about Trutrack and similar brands is that if it doesn’t work ,it’s easy to undo it and try again with a longer straight piece or a different radius.
No it won’t. If you start a 24" curve on two parallel tracks 2" apart they will cross at the 90 degree point unless you stagger where they end and insert the straight piece in the middle. In addition the separation will not be equal around the curve. Set a compass to any distance and draw it to prove my point.
