daniel
Many comercial printers can make transfers. If you have photo ready art. If not they can do the art work for a fee. Several makers of blank decal “paper” that can be used with laser printers.
i dont want go through all that i barely have enough time as it is to paint and work on my models i just want to get some ready made, where can i find a maker?
There are several custom decal makers advertised in Model Railroader magazine.
Here’s a few links:
Rail Graphics: http://www.railgraphicsdecals.com/
Highball Graphics: http://www.mgdecals.com/homepage.htm
Scale Rail Graphics: http://www.scalerailgraphics.com/
Most custom makers require a minimum run of 10 to 25 sheets and may charge a set up fee if they have to do all the art work as well. The more of the art work you can doyourself the less costly it will be.
Go thru all what. The art work or delivering it to a printer. Most houses you can transter the art electronically. You have made the decision to name your own railroad so you are investing more time than most of us. You will need the time to at least approve a proof before they print when dealing with most printers whether you use an above named vendor or someone local. Good luck and ENJOY. P.S. Highball Graphics is no longer offering custom decals. sorry
Yeah, I just noticed that. He has some great decals though.
I highly recomend scalerailgraphics, they are some fo the best decal makers in the state of WI at least. I plan on using them to make my custom decals sometime soon, as soon as I get the money for it. And, as far as I know, they have no minuim order, so you only have to order a sheet or two if you want. I’d give them an e-mail with what you want and ask them to give you a quote.

My only experience with custom decals was with ScaleRailGraphics. He uses ALPS printers. The decals were clear, crisp, reasonably priced, and they will get my next order.

I’ve had all my custom work with “Rail Graphics” and can recommend them (him). I also recommend getting more than the minimum. All but one of my orders have in the 100s of sheets so it is cheaper. The one that was less was for passenger equipment and I’ve regretted not kicking it up to a greater quantity.
Ah, I see what you are asking. Ready-made decals aren’t considered “custom”. Almost any hobby store should have an entire file cabnet full of them. Or if your local hobby store doesn’t one of the on-line ones will. Example - Go to this site and search for “Decals & Dry Transfers” http://www.caboosehobbies.com/catalog/search.cfm
