Where can I send a locomotive to have it professionally lazer painted?
I am going to surmise that you think there is some sort of magic painting process that is used to paint cars and engines. It is still done the old fashoned way…with a spray gun and masking templates. The lettering is pad printed-vs-decals which is the only difference from what the average person will do. Pad printing does not lend itself to doing one off projects as there is a quite a bit of setup adjustments that need to be made.
Here is a video showing a pad printing machine working. It is running a bit slower than I am accustomed to.

Lazer, with an “Z” no less…haha…
No, there are a few ways that someone paints a loco; dry brushing, pad printing and airbrushing…some companies actually dipped their shells into a vat of paint.

Sounds like an outtake from an Austin Powers movie
I’ve been a custom painter for over 37 years but “lazer” painting is something new to me. Could you explain what that just might be?
Just curious!

some adds for engines and cars touted their printing as “laser Sharp printing” . I suspect thet has purported the myth that there is some sort of laser machine that does the printing on the cars. In fact no such beast exsists. Cars and engines are simply pas printed as they have been for years. The quality level of the pad printing has iscreased over the years to be able to offer the level of detail we now see.
