Thought I’d tap the wealth of knowledge gathered here…
Is there a software application/package out there (prefereable freeware) specifically for custom designing railroad color themes (roads)?
It would be really cool to be able to select a particular loco type and the based on a outline of that loco, change and customize the color scheme to a personal freelance road. I’ve tried using photoshop and paint, and it’s just too cumbersome.
Please post links if you have any.
Thanks,

Recent versions of Trainz simulator have an add-on that lets you do that with the engines used in the software. You can pick up the not-the-latest version in bargain bins.
It would do what you want, plus you’d have a pretty nifty game, too. [:)]
Check there web site for versions that have it. I think it’s called Paint Shed.

Here is the one I used to design my Iron Belt loco scheme:

I took a digital photo of the car I was interested in, converted it to a BMP file, and then played with it in MS Paint. You could do the same with a scanner to get the image in, and any graphics package will do. It’s crude, but mildly effective.
Thanks guys. Ken, I’ll download it and give it a try.
