I have a unique problem most other railroaders need never face. As an architect and a model railroader, I am choosing to scratchbuild every structure on my layout… and also to design every structure. In some cases I am indulging architectural whim, and I end up needing a specific style of door or window or whatnot, for which there simply are no commercially available castings.
Does anyone know a reliable method for producing windows and doors to any design? I could cast my own, perhaps, after making a master, but I know I am going to have so many one-of-a-kind picture windows, with arch tops or distinctive mullion patterns or fancy casings… I have considered printing my CAD drawings onto a clear medium such as acetate, but I do not have a six-color printer (like the Alps decal printer). Any help? Do any of the detail castings companies offer customized orders?
