Howdy all, has anyone ever made one of these from scratch and did it work? How tough? Would a Lionel Southern Crescent qualify as a candidate for the train for this mess? Thanks to all, Jake
Dissapearing tunnel track work actually modifies the track into a tighter turn and a very stewep rise. Don’t thing a southern crescent would be a good candidate for operation. There is a discussion on how to make sucj a layout in a past CCT magazine.
A consideration to overcome the steep rise inside the mountain, would be to use a 45 degree cross-over on the level grade inside the mountain. I have had success using this configuration with Fastrack and Atlas track. Just a little food for thought.

And there’s an article in the Nov 2001 CTT
This would of course prevent you from presenting the original visual as designed by Lionel with the string of multicolored gondolas, with one & a half or two cars at the end of the train just going in to the tunnel, as the front of the 2035 led train was coming out of the other side, so there was no mistake made that it might be a different train.
might be me but niether link worked for me
