D.C. Metro proposes multi-billion dollar expansion

Of course this makes sense. Big government is the only part of the economy in full steam ahead growth mode. Everything else is on hold or shrinking. All hail the all controlling, constitutionally ignorant, big government. As always, those who don’t use any of it, will pay for all of it.

Metro to Rosslyn? Good, then you can transfer to the Washington and Old Dominion and continue on through Lessburg to Purcellsville. Wait, that road was abandoned many years ago. Too bad.

Who are the best paid transit workers in the USA ?
Which transit workers have the best pensions in USA ?

Uhhh John, the Metro Blue and Orange lines already go through Rosslyn and God bless the W&OD, they never made a dime on commuter service. What is interesting is that the folks in Georgetown didn’t want subway service when they were building the system.

What they really need to do is to revive a proposal for an east-west tunnel that was proposed many years ago. That one would’ve served Union station, if I’m not mistaken. I think it would be a good wat to handle the Blue, Orange and soon the Silver lines. The Present east-west tunne; has plenty of traffic as it is with the Blue and Orange lines.

When I moved there in 78 they were still debating having the train go into Georgetown and then over to Rosslyn but it was nixed as to expensive plus it would not generate enough traffic to support it. They would be better off running the train under Georgetown and then above ground along the old route of the DC transit out to I-495 by the bridge over the Potomac and build a large parking garage complex next to I-495 to get people into DC. It would create a feeder to get the drivers off the road that commute in via McArthur Blvd. Right now DC area traffic is usually listed as the 3rd worst in the country for delays.
The other location they need to expand is south from behind the shopping Mall at the junction of I-395/I-495/I-95 and head down to the old railroad freight line that extends into Ft Belvoir because much of the military and civilian workers is moving over 15,000 jobs to this area.

I suggest paying for this via a regional special income tax on government workers, employees of government suppliers, and lobbyists.

Otherwise they will force OTHERS to pay for THEIR convenience.

they could cut down on congestion by giving the tax dollars to the regions that generated them

For funding, how about adding a tax on all Federal workers who live in other states and commute to work? Let’s see, that’s 100 senators, 435 congressmen…
