D&RGW Royal Gorge Excursion Train Question...

Good evening fellow railroaders. Could someone out there possibly tell me what road name was on the heavy weight passenger cars that D&RGW pulled during its Royal Gorge excursions back during the steam era. I’ve been looking in my all of my train books and have watched a few videos but so far haven’t come up with anything other than a hunch that it might have been the CB&Q…

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Canon City , Co. and I believe some passenger cars were from the CB&Q but the Rio Grande did Build passenger cars at the Burnham shops in Denver. Also the Missouri Pacific had a Passenger train from St. Louis to Oakland via the Royal Gorge. MoPac to Pueblo, Rio Grande to Salt Lake, Western Pacific to Oakland / steam/deisel era. Steam era were mostly Rio Grande Equipment.

This is the best broadside shot I could find in a quick search. Don’t know if you can blow it up and zoom in for more details or not. http://www.ghostdepot.com/rg/images/royal%20gorge%20route/royal%20gorge%20passenger%20train%201704%20locomotive%20oppc.jpg

My fiancee has been living in Canon City since last March. I was out in September. Nice country. Didn’t get a chance to ride the Royal Gorge excursion but did drive Phantom Canyon Rd up to Cripple Creek. That drive piqued an interest in the Cripple Creek and Florence RR.

This is a handy guide to Rio Grande passenger trains:

Several options there, depending on the exact train you’re referring to.
