Dad, can you build it tonight?

Today we watched Dream, Plan, Build. Shane, my son particularly liked Marcel Taulwein’s Mountain layout a 45 x 75 foot floor to ceiling wonder.

I tried to tell him that I’ve been working over a year on my 5 x 8.

He wouldn’t hear of it.

lol Chip, from the mouths of babes… I’m sure just a VERY vague representation in the AM would make his eyes bulge and you the hero forever… if only life were that simple… good luck…

have fun
Karl

Sorry Chip! But I’m truly disapointed in your abilities. Shoulda had it done in an afternoon. What’s wrong with ya? Gett’n old on us?!?![:D]

Don’t take it personally… After all Rome wasn’t built in a day[;)]

My Gkids would like the Gorre and Dephetid in a week. I think it’s impressive that I made 8 cattails in a week. Life goes on, but at different paces, I guess.

Everyday my 5 year old asks when I turn out the lights in the train room “is it done now dad” ? I wonder how long the smile and “soon son” will work?

Now thats funny I get those comments from my dad lol

My old saying -

When You Rush - That Is When You Get things Done Faster!

BOB H - Clarion, PA

My kids use to ask the question… “So Dad when’s it going to be finished?” I never really said much so my wife answered thier queries with "Someday, maybe, well it’s your father it’ll never be finished.
So it’s now a “continuing work in progress with no forseable completion date as it is compiled of multiple phased projects”

My dad thinks when I’m modifying my current layout, its actually destruction, so maybe I need to do something different to please him? I think not.

It’s morning, Chip. How far along are you?

Chip, you could try making “Mountains” out of “Molehills”!?!

Where is Samantha Stevens when you need her?

I’ve got a cattle drive on my layout and never even thought about “mole hills.”

Is a model layout really ever "done’?

My oldest daughter was with me one day and I was talking to an old friend I havent seen in awhile. My friend asked me what I was doing And I said I was doing Body work for a living. My little girl right quickly said no you don’t daddy your a magician. I ascked her why she would say that. She Said Thats what mommy calls you because you are always disapering to the train room. We had a good laugh over that.

I’ve got it on my layout… Nice stuff (considerin’ what it is supposed to be).

Chip…Take your best shot at making a model that’s representitive of what he saw.I’m sure that he’ll be thrilled and if he don’t see them side by side, you may get away with it.Remember your’re his hero,it’s a tough job and 20 years from now, even if he dont mention it, it’s a building block in bonding…It’s a good thing.

You’re a lucky man, Chip. I’m hoping my son catches the aficion when he gets a little bigger (seven months is a bit early, but you can always hope).

While he wasn’t addressing your exact situation, Robert Heinlein put this into the Notebooks of Lazarus Long:

“Get a shot off fast. This distracts your opponent and gives you time to make your second shot perfect.”

I remember pretty well covering a 5 - by - 12 layout with hardshell in a Saturday. A quick spray of grey, tan and green paint from aerosol cans will get it looking good enough so that you can slow down and detail it at your leisure.

Happy mountain building.
