Dallas Area Rapid Transit celebrates launch of light rail service to airport

Slowly…oh ever so s-l-o-w-l-y…we are finally establishing the kind of connectivity between modes that travelers in many other developed nations take for granted. I hope the trend continues.

Right on! And DC will be on board in the near future, with Metrorail service to Dulles International Airport.

Wonder how the new extension is going to affect service on the Trinity Rail Express which had a bus shuttle out to DFW from a midpoint station?

Airport links are important to regional transit. People step off a plane and are transit ready right then and there. They’re on foot carrying everything by hand. Some people will no longer need a ride to the Airport, and others won’t have to drive there and park. And with just one transfer, they can get anywhere else DART rail goes. The magic of the one seat ride is great, but with transit, transfers are often a necessary hinderance. The fewer the better. But heck, when you can go from downtown Dallas to Shanghai (or many other places in the world) with just one transfer, that’s not bad at all. And as for TRE, I’m sure people will still use that connection, especially if you’re coming from Fort Worth. Does it still take 2 busses to get from the TRE to the Airport as it did when I did it a few years ago? That there is unfortunate.

No William. Take DART route #500 and it is FREE from Centre Point station. I’ve heard that this bus may be serving of all places, Arlington, which is the largest city in the nation with NO public transit, not even a taxicab! Arlington needs to dump its anti-transit congressman Peter Sessions if they want to see the light of day for public transit, rail service, or even taxicabs.
