Darwin Museum of Railroading

Hi everybody, in case you didn’t know Darwin is in Australia. This museum will be in a 2 storey builging the size of a tennis court and will have the HO scale layout up top and the library and member area below. It will be government funded by the Northern Territory Government.

Any questions?

Mitchell Legg aka GDRMCo.
President of the Darwin Model Railroad Society.

Andy, could you do an article on this in the November 2004 issue?

Congratulations on this museum complex. What a great thing to have.
Our governments would never fund anything like this, as we have thousands of more ‘politically-correct’ special interest groups getting all our tax money.
It is difficult not to be envious.

As former vice pres of North Australian Railway Modellers Association (Darwin - 1980s-1994), I am very glad to hear that the government will fund something as we tried for years to get support, even to the point of making a train for the CM Marshall Perron. We were given assistance to set up at the Hidden Valley Motor Complex where we built several displays and lived in a symbiotic relationship with the petrol heads. Has Dave Cooper contacted you? He was the driving force for many years, also owned the hobby shop at the Air Force gates and then at Leanyer. Where is the site for this to be? We tried to get land near the old tip at Leanyer off Vanderlin Dr. But I had to leave Darwin and come to Perth and most other train buffs had gone. All the best - Kim Hazelgrove

kimh, is there a club in darwin still?

Hi - is there a website for the Darwin Museum of Railroading?
Whereabouts is the model club / does it have a website?
Yes, I do remember the shop near the airforce gate - and helping wiring up a layout in the shopping centre when the model shop moved.

And I thought this was a thread about evolution, go figure???[:D]

That’s just three I can name off the top of my head, and I know there’s others out there that have partial to complete government funding.

Congratulations Mitchell… Looks like you have another layout to build and deal with… I hope you have fun with this endevour.
