Anybody have any suggestions or comments on the available sound systems for the Aristocraft Dash 9. Everything I have listened to over the internet just doesnt please me, even though I know online sound files are not the best. Also, my Dash 9 has been shorting out (the onboard circuit trips) while running the smoke generator lately. When it shorts I reduce power to zero, start her up again, it shorts again. If the generator is off the engine runs fine and if the motors are off and generator is on, the generator runs fine. This is also not the first engine to do this, my GP-9 does it as well, any suggestions?
UncleJoe, I am no expert on this, but it sounds like you may not have enough power. What size power supply do you have and how much track do you have down?
UNCLE JOE
Go to the Aristo craft site , their they can you help ,you must sign in with your real name , or e- mail them www.aristocraft.com
I thought it might have been a power issue but I didnt exactly want to run out and buy another power pack. I’m using an LGB 1 Amp, 20V, 120V, DC power pack. It also doesn’t seem to matter what ammount of track i run on because when I tested the Dash 9 it was only on a small loop of track.
JOE
I use a creast power pack its a 10 amp with my U 25 B ,and my R-S- 3 's and with all my other engines this may be your problem to small , I use a train engineer with it , if you know another person with an R-R ask them to try it on their track ,if the power pack is bigger. ben
Joe,
Best to contact Aristocraft just to make sure. www.aristocraft.com. All the best. Later eh…Brian.
Joe,
Forgot to mention…I have heard Phoenix Sound first hand installed in a Dash 9. VERY impressive and very convincing. If the price is too for you then go with Sountraxx Sierra. I have two locos with Sierra sound and are very satisfied with them. For the price they are an excellent sound system. Later eh…Brian.
Hey there Uncle Joe, I ve gotten two sound systems at the same time so to say for a trial test from my dealer for the dash niners, the Sierra, and the Phoenix. Guess who wins, especially outside with wind variances affecting the sound, not to mention the volume and convincing sound the Phoenix delivers, granted its more expensive. I know Phoenix has an interface package where you can download your favorite sound right from your p.c. Same card, switch it into another loco, and now you ve got steam, if thats the case, I ve got an SD-45 along with 6 dashers, I ve made it easy and possible to remove the card from one type of engine being the SD-45, and put it in the dash, after interfacing, and voila, now you ve got dash 9 sound. BTW; The SD-45 sound works very well even in the dashes. All a matter of what you want to hear. Eventually, I ll buy another board or two, thats if I stop buying additional dashes, and hearing the sound online does not compare, to up close and personal. Not everone has a good dealer like I do. I pay his rent on his store!!! Good Luck, Phoenix is my vote!!!
UncleJoe:
Phoenix gets my vote, too. It is worth the extra money and the install
in the dash 9 is a snap.

thanks for the adivce and comments everyone. once i save up some more money ill get to work on installing the sound, and possibly be getting a new power supply.
Hey there,
Let us know what you end up with! Later eh…Brian. [:D]
Uncle Joe,
You need a bigger power supply, I am surprised you could even get it to move with that lil 1 amp supply.
