I am currently modeling New England in N scale. I am very soon start resume work after a summer break. Now It will be done to what I want it to be by about April/May. After that I will continue to buy freight cars and engines for it. Now by about 07 I will want to build another layout. I will still enjoy my New England based one though. Now I have decided to next fall build a N scale Pennsylvania RR based layout. It like Daves spectaculer layout will be on a door. (I am using a door for my extension to my New England layout also) Dave your layout Is great and I wish mine looked like that! Before looking at pics of your RR I was never a huge Pennsy fan but now I am. Thanxs for costing me more money!!! Do you know any good Pennsy stites to research the RR?? And sites with track plans that model a real part of the RR? Thank you for the help. Tim
Here’s a couple quick prototype links…
North East Rails has 15,000 + prototype photos at http://www.northeast.railfan.net/
A ton of PRR photos are at Fallen Flags’ http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/prr/prr.html
Keystone Crossings’ http://kc.pennsyrr.com/ is a great place to start anything Pennsy.
Mike Shanahan did a superb “Horseshoe Curve in the 1950s” which was more Pennsy than curve in the December 2002 Model Railroader. There is a complimentary online article of Mike’s Brunswick & Tuscan layout with many pictures at http://www.trains.com/mrr/default.aspx?c=a&id=169
For an indepth look at PRR equipment I highly recommend:
Rob provides rosters, diagrams, equipement specs, modeliing information and more, for almost every piece of equipment the Pennsy used.

Thanks! A really great place to start your research is Jerry Britton’s Keystone Crossings site:
You’ll find more information than you can imagine. Plus, he’s got links to other PRR layouts (including mine). Jerry’s building a triple-decked N scale PRR layout depicting the Philadelphia and Middle Divisions, with a true-to-scale model of the Harrisburg passenger station and yard. It’s amazing!
As for your layout looking like mine, I can’t take any credit for my scenery. Everything I did I learned from other model railroaders. None of my scenery techniques are truly unique. We all stand on the shoulders of giants. Whether I got lucky with the right combination of products and techniques… maybe. But I didn’t do anything you can’t do also. Best of luck!
Thank you for all the info guys. Dave your layout proves that you can have a very nice model railroad in a not so large space. Ill check out all the websites listed. It should be fun to have 2 N scale layouts! Funny thing is 2 months ago if you asked me if I would build a Pennsy layout I would say no or maybe. But know I would 100% say yes. Pennsy now ranks right up ther with Maine Central in my favorite RR list. Good luck with your layout to. Tim
