Remember the Late and very-much-missed David Read? His last Trains article was on the new Berlin Central Raailroad Station, and previous articles discussed his work as a machinist helper in an SP roundhouse in the last days of sreanm and as a towernan for the Sante Fe. He was responsible for the on-board public address of the Cummbres and Toltec, a fitting sequel to his work on on-board music and announcemwent for the fleet of AT&SF Chiefs.
His article on Dr. Harvwey Fletcher, whom I met once, and who probably had more to do with the development of the audio industry than any other single individual, can be found at:

Did he have any previous stories published in Trains in earlier years?
I enjoyed his story about the new Berlin station (and think the others you mention were in Classic Trains as I recall), but a search in the Trains DVD archive doesn’t show anything older. Just this and a few letters to the editor.
I know sometimes that they’ll partially abbreviate a name, but a few combinations like R. D. Read didn’t find anything.
Probably, I confused the Classic Trains stories as Trains stories.
