DC SD Locomotives

I’m looking for an inexpensive SD40 through SD80MAC in HO scale. If anyone happens to find a Conrail SD40 and up, please let me know. Three hours searching and no locomotives in Conrail paint have jumped out and screamed right choice.

And where have you been searching? There are blue Conrail engines on eBay and several other sites - all under $100. I do not think you are going to find them any more inexpensive. These are all DC/DCC Ready engines - no DCC/Sound for that price.

Yeah, I guess he did not really try. I did a Google search for Conrail SD40 ho scale and found four for around $90.00. Man, this took me at least 130 seconds and I did not even try Ebay.

I suspect you will find some on ebay, Buy it Now for around the same price. No doubt there will be some starting at a lower bid but I always do a Completed Listing to see the average of actual total bid. If you know how to shop, you can find some good deals there.

You all have good points. I’ve been mainly cruising Google and looking for locomotives with high pull. Plus, my track isn’t all that great. I’m probably the only guy using Power-Loc track on this site. My Athearn power pack isn’t all that great either. It’s two years old and runs like one that got drenched in a flood, hit by a car, lit on fire, and blown up and reassembled. It just can’t run any six axle at a four axle pace. All my road switchers (save for a Lifelike GP38 and a Model Power RS-2 (bad idea)) run fast, and when I hook them up to my large boxcar train, they still have a huge pull. My Dash 8-40C, however, barely pulls the SD80MAC of a train and my ancient SD40-2 is the same. I clean all my power regularly, and still get the same result. Track too. Once my cash wad is a little more thick, I’ll end up replacing the power pack with a newer one, and one that will last. Hopefully

I finally found not one, but THREE locomotives that suite my needs. I was being a little bratty about “I’ll only take SD40 and up”. I ended up with two SD38s, one GTW, one Conrail, and a SD45, also Conrail. Being a bit of a freelancer allows me to use any company that I choose. I mainly go Conrail, with a paper-thin hint of CSX. I’ve lately been looking for GTW SDs before I got into Conrail SDs. If I take the GTW SD, then I’ll get a big locomotive and a company I wanted. I go for the SD45, big loco too, and my main road. Same with the other SD38. The best part, though, is I won’t empty my pocket on the 45. The GTW, though, is $120 after shipping, and its DCC. First one I’d have, and I might get that MRC Tech6 Sound Controller 6.0, and call that my new power pack! Now that would slowly ease me into DCC, and I’d be able to use my existing DC fleet with sound!
