DC SOUND EQUIPPED LOCOS

I HAVE AN MRC POWER PACK. I AM THINKING ABOUT BUYING AN ATLAS SOUND EQUIPPED LOCO, THEN BUYING THE QUANTUM ENGINEER TO RUN THE UNIT. MY QUESTION IS DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS SET UP AND HOW DOES IT WORK ON DC? I AM REALLY INTERESTED IN THE ENGINE SOUNDS.I E THROTTLE UP AND DOWN. THANX

Please stop SHOUTING.

What you describe will work fine.

I have several BLI loco’s with QSI decoders. I currently work them all with an MRC Tech II power pack. They work and sound great and I can program variables like volume levels for various sound effects and settings for load, helper, etc. I don’t have the Quantum Engineer controls but I’d think they would work fine as well.

There are a few sound effects that we can’t do in DC, like coupler crash sounds and other noisy events. However I’m satisfied with what I do hear, although the diesel engine sounds aren’t as impressive as those of my steam loco’s. But steamers were noisier anyway.

I have a MRC Tech 2 - 2500 Power Pack. Its about ten years old. For Christmas I rcvd the Atlas Quantum Engineer and Atlas HO Diesel w/sound: the Sante fe GE-B23-7. Very easy to hook up and absolutely great fun to run! Your limited by what your engine will allow. On the GE-B23 I can control front/rear lights, horn, bell, dynamic brakes , couplers and grade crossing alert. There aren’t any cab lights, but the ability to turn the load simulator on or off is a nice feature and you can program volume and voltage from the power pack. I’m running a relatively small layout (4x12 feet) so the DC is fine for now and the Atlas add ons allow me to take advantage of many of the DCC sound features without having to add it at this point in time. Go for it, you won’t be disappointed.
