Why ridership is dropping?
Ridership usually drops when gas prices fall; but it is compounded this time around by Metro’s safety record and over all poor quality of service.
Does crime have a impact?
A police presence
Why on earth was the controller taken out of service when he/she did the right thing by intervening, BEFORE a serious accident occurred?!
HR-EO?
Controller on a type of administrative leave until interviewed and the investigation is done. Much like with police after they fire a gun at a fleeing felon.
i thought that Metro was all computer-controlled, and onboard “operators” were there simply to open and close the doors.
The trains have been run manually since the 2009 crash. Pity that the system doesn’t have trippers which would set the brakes if the train runs a red signal.
In other words DC Metro does not have any form of Automatic Train Stop(ATS)?
Metro uses an Automatic Train Control (ATC) system based on audio frequency track circuits, but does not have any mechanical trip arms like the NYC Subway system. In manual mode trains can be operated up to (if I recall) 15 mph under a “0 code,” so collision is still possible.
