DC’s Union station is 100 years old and vibrant this weekend. If you’re close to Washington, drop in. Lots of E’s a GG-1, a GP9, an Acela train, private/business cars and of course the station itself are on view.
Saw a lot of wide-eyed kids and some patient moms there yesterday. It runs from 12 to 4pm today. If you are close take the Metro and you won’t be disappointed.
As Frimbo said, put a train on and people will show up. This show is a grand round-up.

I suppose the GG-1 is cosmetically restored only. None of the remaining ones operate do they…?
I was told that 2 NS Gp38-2’s brought the G down the North East Corridor this past Wednesday. I was also told that if they raised the CAT, it would short out NEW JERSEY…
I was told 2 amtrak b32-8s brought it down with a bunch of gondolas and side-dump cars for braking. The set was sitting just outside the platforms on Saturday.
It’s my understanding that none of them have ever been more than cosmetically restored. This one I photographed last year at the PRR museum in Strasburg. They must have gone to some trouble taking it out of the building as it’s more or less berthed in the middle of the building.
I would have loved to go to this event, but I opted to take my son and son-in-law up to the B&O museum to watch the William Mason being run. Never thought I would ever see a pre-civil war locomotive running.
…Don’t know which one they brought down, but about 25 years ago, we stopped by the Pennsylvnia Railroad Museum and I took some pic’s of the GG-1 inside. It was the original prototype with the rivets and not the smooth welded body as I believe all that followed were.
Modelcar - Sir, that would be PRR 4800…aka “ol’ Rivets”.
Just viewed a bunch of Andrew Blayzak’s pics, and here is the lineup:
PRR GG1 #4935
SOUTHERN E8 #6900
B&O GP9 #6604
ACL E3 #501
PRR E8 #5711
