DCC and Double Crossover

I finally got my new DCC layout running but have one problem I am just investigating. I installed a Walthers Code 83 Double Crossover and, for an as yet unknown reason, my engines stop when they go straight through the crossover (either track) and there is about a three foot dead space beyond the crossover (from the middle of the crossover to the next insulated track section and the same spot is dead regardless of the direction of the engines). I may just need to add some more feeders in this area since the crossover is serveral feet from the last feeder but I’m wondering if there is some secret to the double crossover installation since the dead spot is on both sides of my parallel tracks. I don’t yet have switch machines installed (I’m going to use Tortoise with a remote mount for double crossover) if that makes any difference. Anyone got any experience with this?

The double crossover has several insulated sections built into it. You’ll need to provide a power feeder to each end of the crossover. Your dead track problems will disappear. Try and guess how I know this…

The Walthers double-slip is similar. All four legs must be powered by feeders.

Thanks for the help - I added feeders on the other side of the crossover and my dead spot disappeared.

You’re quite welcome…I’m glad I was able to help someone on the forum for a change…instead of being the one always wanting help.

Yuppers… had this same problem myself and fixed the same way…feeders to each track going in… very small deadspot in middle actually, that I don’t worry about.
