DCC and multiple tracks

I am new to DCC. I have purchased a MRC Prodigy Advance. My question is this: Can I run trains on different tracks off the one MRC PA unit or do I need to buy a DCC unit for each track? I have 3 tracks on my layout (under construction) that are not connected in any way. I am still finishing up laying track and want to begin wiring soon.

Thank you in advance.

I don’t see why not. The tracks will be electrically connected, but do not necessarily need to be mechanically connected.

I hope you have a book on basic DCC. You can run a whole layout with one DCC systen. There is a need to care for revearsing loops, just as in DC. There are automatic units for DCC that work great. Some people will have some separation for finding shorts ect, but they are not necesary.

Yes.

Having completely isolated tracks sort of defeats one of the main purposes for DCC. Why not just use a DC power pack on each?

You can run as many trains on as many tracks as you have power for, or the limit of how many simulataneous locos your system can control is reached, whichever comes first.

You could in theory operate multiple layouts all with one DCC system - say you had an HO and an N scale layout. Wire both to the same DCC booster and you can run trains on both layouts at the same time.

Thanks for the replys. I do need to get a DCC book. I thought maybe the Prodigy instruction book might shed some light on what it can do.

I am going to have 2 of the 3 tracks running DCC and one DC until I get my loco’s converted. That will take me quite a while.
