I’m building a 20 ft x 20 ft layout for the first time and plan to use DCC. I have quite a few RR DC transformers like Trainmaster etc. What will I be able to use these transformers for (if anything) on the new layout? Hal
If you choose Digitrax Zepher, you will be able to use two for extra throttles.
You could use them as accesory power either with the AC termanals or use the variable output to get a variable DC voltage. They work for stationary motors, lights, switch machines, and anything else that needs power. You could also use them as paperweights if so inclined.
Use the variable DC for building lighting. I like to keep the lamps a little dim to extend lamp life but when I’m showing off “night time operations” I bump the voltage up a little to get a better lighting effect. Most power packs don’t have enough current capacity to supply power for DCC boosters.
I have one dedicated to my Kadee wheel cleaning brush for cleaning non-DCC locomotive wheels.
