DCC and Sound in a 2006 Riv Allegheny

Hey all,

I just picked up a 2006 model Rivarossi (I guess the new incarnation) 2-6-6-6 Allegheny. Its DCC ready, so I’d like to put a decoder and possibly sound in it. Can anyone recommend a good decoder/sound setup for this beast?

thanks

Aaron

A SoundTraxx Tsunami Heavy Steam decoder would be the best choice, because it can be programmed to represent a 4-cylinder engine.

I would agree and am currently doing the same conversion. You can use Tony’s large oval speaker in the tender.

I put one in my H-8 and it sounds Excellent! Well worth the investment. However after frying 2 Decoders and then hotwiring a 3rd after removing the DCC ready part. Why they fried? not sure, did some trouble shooting and finally said “out ya go” and the third decoder and all worked fine. This is not the first time I’ve had problems with DCC ready locos made by several Manufactures. End result is that I’ve removed several circuit boards with no problems since.
