DCC and track cleaning car ?

Has anyone put a decoder into a motorized track cleaning car ? I have one of the MNP (517-7112) Gunderson high cube box car track cleaning cars. I am planning on placing a Digitrax DH-163D decoder inside to power the motors. It should be pretty straight forward. I am just wondering if others have done this already or how you run motorized track cleaners with DCC setups.

Whether or not you can do this depends on the current draw of the motors in the track cleaning car, so your first step should be to measure the amount of current the car is drawing when in actual operation.

I knew I had seen this somewhere… the Aztec sight offers their track cleaner with DCC. Have a look, might be of help.

yuppers, I have 2 of them setup that way. got a super small decoder then widdeled it into the frame of the unit. it was one of those MoW cleaners with the 4 pads 2 front 2 rear.

Also my club has several of them as well they put together to run and just clean. 1 it is easier to use, 2 it is less weight to pull around. as some know. if you set up 2 or more cleaning cars on a engine. it’s like pulling a 800 car train with a gandy dancer

I installed the decoder today. Went in easily. Took longer to figure out how to get the roof off the boxcar than it did to wire up the decoder.

Hi Jeff, yep I’m on this forum too! I have one of the Tony’s Train Exchange Cleaning cars, haven’t used it yet, but it has received good reviews.
