I am in the planning stages of my HO layout and have a question about DCC. I want to run my trains with walk around throttles using DCC however, I am also interested in being able to run them from my computer. Is there a easy (inexpensive) way to do this?

I don’t know of a cheap way but I do know that Zimo with STP software is the best possible combination that offers true prototypical operations. It is a system that doesn’t require the computer to keep track of train positions. Among many other advantages, it means, that if several trains arrive at a “decision” point the computer is not overwhelmed, not even with an old 486 machine!

I have a Digitrax Zephyr and added a Locobuffer II interface $60 and free JMRI software. Take a look at the JMRI web sites and see if it does what you want it to?
http://jmri.sourceforge.net/ it can work with a lot of DCC systems.
