Hello everyone, I have several Bachmann 8-40c’s and 8-40cw’s. My question is has anyone converted them to DCC and if so what Digtrax decoder would work best and how easy is it. I forgot to mention thta they are N-scale.
Thank you,

I just did a non-Spectrum loco (GP-40). It was tough, I had to grind out a place in the frame (top) and insulate the motor from the frame((ground down the frame contacts), insulated the lights and then wired everything up. I ruined the first loco but it was cheap and I learned a lot. The second now runs good, better than it did on just DC. I used the Digitrax DZ123 decoder.
Hopefully your Spectrum is DCC ready (has a place for the decoder and possibly an NMRA plug).
Hope that helps.
Peter
Peter,
“DCC Ready” in N Scale means split frame and isolated motor, maybe space for a decoder, but no guarantee. NMRA plugs are extremely rare in N Scale. Can only think of two, both large steamers with the plug in the tender.
DillCo4, mosey over to www.nscale.net and ask over there.
Thank you for the clarification Bikerdad.[:I]
