Can anyone suggest a book, pamphlet describing how to install decoders in steam locomotives. I have two dcc books and they both give great instructions on diesels.
thanks in advance

John, this installation principals are the same. Once you have the shell off the loco the need to isolate the motor and hook up pick-up wires and motor wires plus any lighting are just the same if the loco is a diesel of a steamer. Most modern locos of both types have DCC sockets for installation. If you have to hard-wire the only real difference is that you may have less space to physically place the decoder in a steamer. In that case running a wire harness into the tender may be the best solution. Go to the TCS site you will see lots of examples
The tender is the best place to put both the decoder and the speakers. You’ll need to run wires, but in return you get a lot of empty space which makes a great “sound box.”
