DCC for bachmann spectrium 0-6-0 tank switcher

Whats a good DCC chip for this loco?
I have one coming, they are DCC ready…I also have a Bachmann easy DCC controller coming, i got if for a cool $25!

I want to know whats a good DCC chip for that loco with sound or without.
Is sound possible in that loco?
I also have a DCC ready Bachmann 4-6-2 that has room in the tender for sound and a decoder i imagine. whats a good one for that?
Thanks
Kevin

I used a Soundtraxx LC steam decoder in the tank - after moving the motor - and a 1" speaker mounted under the cab roof.

Jon

After moving the motor? really no room in there then i take it. was it difficult?
$100 for a decoder is a lot, any other decoders that are ok but a bit less $?

thanks

Kevin

Here’s a link to the topic about how I did it

If you don’t need sound there’s plenty of room inside for a small chip, and the loco comes DCC ready.

Jon

Whos charging you $100 for an LC???
Theyre $40 at tonys

By the way jon thats awesome. I have a bachmann 0-6-0 but I took the easy route and just slapped an M1 in there. You have me thinking though about sound for it. Maybe Ill use a LOKsound decoder, theyre small.

$40 at tony’s ok, the soundtraxx website listed these at $99

nice work there on that Jon. thanks for the info. I am not sure if i can get mine to work though, just not sure.

Kevin

Ahh, soundtraxx doesnt update thier website. LCs used to cost $100, but with the recent flood of sound decoders prices have been falling.[:D] Now Tsunamis are $100.

Here is a link to a video I made of my 060 with a Tsunami installed.

David

Ok David, thats a great video of the 060,

Can you give me the exact model of the decoder you used? also does the decoder fit without having to do any bashing?

I also have a MDC shay that will be coming back to me soon. what can fit in one of those?

thanks

Kevin

David-

any words of advice?

Kevin

there are three models of the soundtraxx tsunami (steam anyway , dunno about diesels) , light , medium and heavy . size is the same , only the recorded sounds are different . the tsunami is slightly smaller than the LC so shouldn’t be much different than jon grant’s install
