What is the CV # for changing loco direction, and what do I need to change? I just installed a decoder in a Proto 2000 SW1 switcher and forward and reverse are reversed.
Will,
In order to flip-flop forward and reverse, you need to go to CV29 and change bit 0 from “0” to “1”. Caution: Make sure you are ONLY changing bit 0.
Tom
willist,
You didn’t mention which decoder you are using. I’m assuming that this was a plug and play decoder. If the directions are reversed you most likely installed the (8-pin) plug backward. Just reverse it and everything should be normal.
If there was no plug involved then you will have to reverse the gray and orange motor leads.
Alternatively, you can change CV29. The data sheet that came with the decoder should describe the methodology for doing that. Check for the phrase ‘normal direction of travel’ in the listings for CV29.
CV 29 bit 1 . I generally set CV29 to 39 for 128 speed steps, 4 digit addressing and reverse direction. 38 would be the same setting except the direction of travel would be “normal”. This is for Digitrax and QSI decoders.
Are the headlights also backwards? Changine CV29 will reverse the motor direction, but I think it will also change the headlight selection. If the lights are right but the engine goes the wrong way, then you’ve got to reverse the gray and orange wires. (Of course, there are also ways to flip the headlights around, but that’s a different CV.)
Very good point.
