i have some old AHM diesels was wonderin is it possible to make them dcc or better to get rid of them some bl2 and rs-2 and even a big boy

You can convert anything to DCC. The question becomes is it worth it to you?

There are several businesses that do custom DCC installations www.litchfieldstation.com etc. Older models can be tricky sometimes so the cost of these installs might be quite high.

Bachman makes a decent DCC engine that you can get for around $30. If you shop around you can get a decoder for $15. Does your engine run well enough to be better than the $30 Bachman and is your labor and time worth more than $15?

yes it does and they are from my father as gifts when i was a young kid

I’d say leave them alone. I’d say they are worth more in origanal configuration and run them on straight DC. Sentimental Value that is!

Installing decoders is very simple, once you actually install one. I would go buy a cheap decoder and try installing it yourself. Once you have done it your going to look back and say, “Now that wasn’t so bad”. You could leave them like they are and just run them on 00 if you don’t want to rip them apart. Personally, I would drop in the decoders and have some fun with them.

I would advise against litchfeild or tonys because they are way too expensive! Its best to just do it yourself. If you cant do that the cheapest installer I have come accross is Discount DCC http://www.freewebs.com/discountdcc/index.htm

But still, the best thing to do is just do it yourself. It is not difficult at all.
