DCC in an Atlas N scale Shay

Has anyone installed a DCC decoder in an Atlas N scale Shay (earlier version), of course after I bought a few the new version is DCC ready or friendly. Or perhaps might it be possible to install the new split frame in the older versions, assuming motor and running gear fit?

Thanks,

John

Go to Trainboard.com

Do a search ( Atlas Shay )in the DCC forum

Powersteamguy1790 has a write up tutorial on how he did it to 3 of his.

No pictures but I hope this helps,

Craig

Craig,

I’ll take a look.

Thanks for the reference,

John

This might help you out: http://www.trainweb.org/nrmrc/dccconv/at2shay.html

Philip,

This with the pictures seems to be a bit easier.

Thanks,

John

Not a problem! Let us know how it comes out, OK?

Be glad to, probably won’t be 'til later in the year.

John

Philip seems to have an enormous wealth of information at his fingertips!![angel]

Thanks for posting the link- I lost it some time ago.

Craig

Craig,

Yes he does, one of the really great benefits of being able to “join” forums like this is that

there are so many resources available to the group.

Your reference was aslo very helpful.

Thanks again,

John

Thing is, during the day at my job I spend a lot of time on the phone on hold, so I web surf. I come across a lot of stuff, but the problem is finding it in my “favorites” sometimes. There’s so much stuff in there that things sometimes get lost for a while!

That one page came from a master list located here, http://www.trainweb.org/nrmrc/dcc/conversions.html , that contains all sorts of great info on DCC convrsions.

I hadn’t seen Powersteamguy’s write up, but I found it and it looks real good. thanks for the tip!

Well I’m glad you have the time and know how to find websites like this.

I know what you mean about looking for items, wish there was a way to “flag” them as in

emails.

John

See, there’s an up side, and a down side, to my job.

The up shot is that I have lots of time to do personal web surfing on company time and its kosher with my boss.

The down shot is that since I’m the head of the trouble dept. of the local phone company, when my phone rings it’s always a customer who for whatever reason has been through 27,000 people in my dept. trying to get their problem resolved and it hasn’t been fixed yet. This means that when my phone rings, most of the time the conversation starts with the words “YOU PEOPLE…”, and it goes downhill from there. It’s all good though. I let them blow off their steam and then I tell them that their problem is my problem. Their problem will not leave my desk until it’s solved to their satasfaction. That usually calms them down.

I think thats why the boss doesn’t mess with me though. He know’s that if he cans me all of those calls will go to him! He gives me a pretty free reign around there!
