DCC installation in a Bachmann Thomas

How can I install DCC in a Bachmann Thomas using a Bachmann Decoder??

Check my reply to your original post on the General forum.

I have not done this conversion, but I think you just have to open up the cab roof, remove the PCB, and solder the decoder to the correct wires. Be careful, as Bachmann may use different colored wires than your decoder uses.

I agree with you guys all the way

Any particular reason you’re using a Bachmann decoder?

Since it’s not a plug-in and it sounds like you need to solder the wires anyway, there is no advantage to using that decoder just because Bachmann also made the engine. Other low-end decoders may cost less and not give you oddball compatability problems down the line.

Of course, for most applications, the Bachmann decoder is OK, so if you’ve already got one sitting on the shelf, then go ahead and use it.

i have to ask this If you have a thomas that is acting odd from being oiled from never being oiled in i will say 12 years is that bad yes or no?

Here’s another page on Thomas installations:

Though I don’t have any of my own installation pages, I have an overview page with links to various DCC installation pages for Thomas in various scales.

Best!
