DCC LIGHTS

Hey everbody.

I’ve just started in model railraoder after three years away starting a family and a new career  And found things have moved on very quickly in the past years.

I’ve never had to fit DCC to a model before, but i’ve found myself building a HO unpowered climax kit (no motor), I would like to control the head and cab lights via a decoder. It’s a steam loco with no tail lamp to worry about.

What decoder and wiring system would be best system to use??

chris.

Well, since it’s unpowered - are the wheels even metal? You needmetal wheels and some sort of pickup system to get power to any decoders, so you need to start witht hat.

Assuming you get power pickup, to just turn the headlight on and off will be only 1 function. Several companies have function-only decoders (they can only do things liek turn lights on and off, not run motors, perfect since your loco has no motor). The TCS FL2 will work here, it actually has 2 functions, but that’s not an issue.

Thank you for the advice.

Kadee bogie set (metal wheels) and TCS decoder seems the best of options, All can ordered in England

without importing. The Huff n puff climax will look great! [:)]
