Will a DCC locomotive run on a DC layout as other DC engines?

Some will, some won’t.

The decoder has to be a “Dual Mode” decoder.

Proto 2000’s will work on DC, but all of the functions won’t work on DC. Best to use DCC

It depends on the decoder. Most decoders will accept the dc running in CV29 to be active. The best decoders (non sound) for running on dc and dcc would be the Train Control Systems. They are like not having a decoder at all on dc.

Thanks much for the info. Until I switch to DCC, the advice has saved me $$$$.
