More for confirmation than anything else. You can run a DCC on a regualr DC track right? It just wont have all the features (momentum start/stop, bells, whistles, etc…)
Is it ok to run two DC engines on a DC system at the same time in a consist?
No, it will just sit there and ignore the track power. On the other hand some companies make “dual mode” decoders that will respond to a DC current or a DCC signal. I think QSI are dual mode and I believe the Altas are dual mode.
Yes, as long as the power supply has enough power for two locomotives. This is generally not an issue.
This is not quite right. It depends on what decoder you have. All can support this but you must change CV 29 to something. I can’t remember what ou need to change it to. All decoders will work on DCC if this is set. For the sounds i don’t think blowing the whistle and stuff works but the basic sounds (like the chuff) will work on DCC.
I know that my digitrax decoders work on DC. Their lighting setup also works like it would on DCC. They will automatically reverse and if I have a beacon it will flash.
Most decoders are dual mode, QSI, TCS, Digitrax, ESU and Lenz who makes Atlas decoders are a few examples. Usually the dual mode capability is enabled from the factory but can be turned off.
