I am lookiing for information on what is a good DCC product. I am interested in Command 2000 and Atlas DCC. Does anyone have a preference or knows which is the better operating system.
How about comparing the Lenz system to say Digitrax? I’m considering buying a DCC system for a planned B&M/MEC layout in HO, it will be 10’ x 16’ (quite large by UK standards). DCC is still not common here in the UK, so I haven’t found many people to compare notes with.
As far as I can see the Lenz Compact (sold as Atlas in the US)and the MRC systems have very little to offer over conventional cab control wiring, other than simplicity of wiring; but the Lenz 02 and Digitrax Empire-builder 2 offer a lot more features. Has anyone got experience of these systems and what they can offer?
Both systems are about the same price and are fairly easy to operate and programe. The Atlas system is far more felxible and has more possibility for expansion. If I were you I would go with the Atlas system (I have the MRC system and I do regret not going with atlas)
I don’t know to much about Atlas DCC. But the Command 2000 I have and I real like it. The command 2000 can run a enough trains, for one to three people to run. You can run 10 trains and if your layout is big enough run 10 trains then you can let some trains just run when you and the other two or just yourself running the other trains. So for me the Command 2000 is the one.
Any DCC system has its pros and cons. But if you have narrowed your choices between the MRC and Atlas systems, let me recommend the Atlas system. As a dealer in DCC, I have had many customers begin with a MRC they’ve bought and later find their needs have expanded beyond the system. To begin with the Atlas system is more flexible and if your needs expand beyond the basic Commander, you can add additional products in the Lenz Digital Plus line. The Lenz company sells the same system as the “Compact” in Europe. They have simply repackaged the system and are having Atlas do the marketing and distribution in the US. Why? Everybody knows the Atlas name! It has stood for quality for years. The Lenz company developed DCC in model railroading and is a good solid unit. Beats the MRC system hands down for the money!
