Every so often I’ve looked at the NWSL PDT’s (from a distance) with the idea that they might be useful for repowering an Athearn SW1500/SW-whatever that I’ve got.
But now the layout is DCC… is it even possible to convert a self-contained powertruck like the PDT to DCC operation?
Not having worked with any, I can only guess. But it should be possible to cut the contact strip and disconnect the motor brushes from the pickups. Fromthen on it’s a straightforward connection - track leads and motor leads.
Although - NWSL makes replacement motors and drive parts that would be less expensive than the PDT. And the replacement parts are direct fit to the Athearn chassis. And there is always the Helix Humper replacement motors as well.
