DCC Programming: episode 14 - DCC Decoder Testers

Nice job Dana. Very informative.

Hi Dana, very informative. I watched you on one of your sessions where you used the PTB100. Could you tell me where that is?
Thanks

Peter from Canada

Hi Peter,
I demonstrate how to connect and use the PTB100 in DCC programming 7.

Thanks for watching!

Peter,
I’m installing a wired decoder. The front and rear lights have a wire, one for each. Where does the second light wires connect to and also the function (common) wire?

Good advice Dana, sure to save a headache later on !

Thanks for this Dana, I was just about to attempt doing this, I did notice you installed the resister, question, does it matter which way it points? the last line on the resister was closest to the direction of flow? And it should be on the positive side, I would assume.

Hey Dana,
Thanks for all of your tips on decoders and programming. They really help. One question I have on the decoder testers for you, and please don’t laugh. I bought the ESU decoder tester an not knowing GERMAN too well, could not figure out how to power up or run the board. Can you tell me how large a transformer I need for this and where I can get some instructions for this in English?

Thanks again for all your instructions. I think they are very helpful.

Hi Russell,
The ESU decoder tester doesn’t use an external power supply. You just need to run wires from your DCC command station’s (or LokProgrammer) track outputs to the screw terminals marked TRACK IN on the tester. You could also use alligator clips to attach to the two metal pads next to the terminals, if you prefer. There are basic instructions posted on the ESU website at http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/decoder-tester/

Hope this helps,

Hi Dana,
Another great video. They say a picture is worth 1000 word, well I said a video is worth 1000 pictures.
A few suggestions a) a making a series about creating sound files and loading them on sound decoders and b) a critical review/test of new DCC decoders.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge,

Moe Bursztein from New Jersey

Great job, Dana! Thanks!
