I am sold. I have been looking for a sound for a DL&W 4-8-4, the prototype had air horns.
Impressive! I purchased one of these decoders to go into a brass Northern Pacific 2-8-8-4 that I’m refurbishing and repainting. This article gives me incentive to finsh the project. I can’t wait to hear it in action!
Fantastic demonstration and an incredible tool to get the most out of your steam locomotive. Nobody can fault the quality of sound from this decoder.
Hey Dana,
Any chance you could do a hands on review of the major (or all you can get your hands on) DCC systems available, showing us how easily (or how hard) they really work performing tasks such as;
- basic train control both on the mainline and in a yard, does it have different yard control, etc
- using functions including the higher functions like function 22
- operating stationary decoders
- programming on the main and on a programming track
- lag and/or non-responsiveness of the controllers especially when there are multiple people
- add ons, automation systems and/or computer interface/control if any
- and as much more as you can
It is impossible to get this information from the box, flyer or even a review in the magazine. I’m sure that there are many people out here that just cannot get to try many systems before we buy them.
Thanks,
Carlo.
Carlo has a great idea for a feature. Perhaps using, consisting, programming all on one segment of each of the major brands. It would have saved me a lot if time and that stuff that is in short supply for model railroaders…money. I bought on of each entry controller to decide what I wanted. The left overs are on eBay. I finally settled on the Digitrax Zephr.
