DCC purchase - final answer?

I am planning to go to the train show in Chantilly, VA this weekend. Looks like folks from Digitrax, NCE and Tony’s Train Exchange will be their. Hoping to finally decide between Digtrax Zephry and the NCE PowerCab. I’ll be getting a hand-held utility with which ever system I get. I have a “U” shaped N-Scale about 13’ x 8’ and with my 7 year old son and I the only operators 99% of time. Looking forward seeing the large N-Scale layout.

You have narrowed it down to two very good choices. I have Digitrax and am very pleased with it exept two things:

  1. For wireless operation, you must plug in to change locomotives.

  2. The throttles are not well laid out in my opinion. Tiny knobs, random arrangement of buttons.

I have never used NCE, but I look at pictures of their throttles and think, “that’s better.”

Sounds like you may have a chance to hold and mess with throttles from both brands and decide that way. I think it may come down to which throttle feels best to you.

Guys,

That is part of the short list of reasons that I went with the NCE plus you can select a Loco with the wireless radio controller without having to plug it in[:)].
Another plus with the NCE is the ease of programming locos over the Digitrax system.
However both systems are top notch for the price[;)], with NCE costing a little more[V].

im planing on going to nce as a 1st dcc is it a good system i will run a 4 x 8 oval is it easy to operate and wire up

Ditto. I went with NCE over Digitrax because I wanted “real” wireless, and I liked the throttle layout better.
