Hi all,
I have put a Soundtrax DSD-B280LC decoder in my Bachman 2-6-0 tender loco with great results. However… and there’s always one of those.,right?..at a local show I picked up a B/Spectrun Vandy tender.Couldn’t resist it…real pretty. Now I’m wondering wether I can shoehorne the decoder into the curveacious Vandy and has anyone tried to put ANY sound dec. in one?
Thanks,
Pete.
Yep. I put, or rather Tony of Tony’s trains, put a Tsunami into a 4-8-2 Heavy J class with vandy for me. Works out great.
There’s no real place to mount the decoder except in the middle of the vandy and hold it down with double sided tape. You will then either have to disconnect the socket, or run the wires to the socket.
As a matter of fact my very first sound installation was in a Vanderbuilt tender. I made the speaker top firing through the coal load and the sound unit itself sat in the center of the tender. I believe I made a small shelf for it so it didn’t touch any of the bolster screws and power take offs from the trucks. I try never to use foam tape for decoder installation because it holds in the heat.
