dcc reversal

I have just been given two dcc engines. Bpth are mrc. One dated 1999 a Santa Fa and one a 1998 Union Pacific. Question is can this be done and how. Can be contacted a nibbies_99@yahoo.com[?]

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I don’t quite understand what you’re asking. Can what be done?

Do you mean that you want to take the DCC decoders out? If they are MRC engines, I believe they are Walthers Trainline products that MRC puts decoders into and sells under their own brandname.

The decoders cannot be removed unless you know how to re-wire the locomotives so they will run without a decoder. Whether or not the MRC decoder can be programmed to operate on straight DC, I have no idea. Some decoders, such as Digitrax can, but MRC decoders that were put into these locomotives are an extremely cheap, shoddy product with very limited programming capabilities.

When MRC first announced that they were going to make decoders and locomotives with decoders already installed, I bought a locomotive and 5 extra decoders. The decoder in the locomotive was defective and 4 out of 5 extras were bad. I’ll never touch another MRC decoder.

So aside from that, you really like them?[:D]
